Staff at all PCDL locations can assist you with your information needs. In particular, the reference department at the New Lexington (Main) location is solely devoted to connecting you with the answers that help you do what you do. In short, if you have a question, our staff can help you.
If you are looking for quick and easy searching of the best of the Web, try the Ohio Web Library or use one of the many useful research databases. If you have a particular question, browse the subjects below or contact our reference staff via e-mail or by phone (740) 342-4194. You also have access to 24x7 online reference assistance via Know It Now. Staff (but not patrons) at all six PCDL locations also have access to a variety of databases provided by the SEO Consortium. Car Repair Information

If you are trying to make repairs to your car, the library can help with both conventional print repair manuals (Chiltons, Haynes, etc.) as well as the always available Auto Repair Reference Center. The Auto Repair Reference Center provides you with the same information available in the print manuals from the comfort of your computer and with no worries concerning whether or not the manual you want will be checked out. If accessing this resource from outside the library, you may be asked to submit your library card number in order to view the site. Look for the print repair manuals from the library's catalog or contact the reference department for assistance.

- Internet Public Library's KidSpace: This great site brings together content on a variety of topics and helps to make sense of the overwhelming amount of information to be found online. Best of all, it's designed just for kids.
- Internet Public Library's TeenSpace: Just like KidSpace but for an older audience. A great resource for writing tips as well as health information relevant to teens.
- Homework Now: Chat live online with a librarian any time of the day or night who will direct you to sites and other materials that will help with your latest assignment.
- World Book Kids: Just like those clunky encyclopedias you find in the library, but online and with links to photos, videos, and more. A great place to start your research.
- World Book Online: If World Book Kids is too kid-friendly for you, try the more mature World Book Online.

If you need assistance applying for jobs online or in preparing your resume, there are local agencies/organizations that can help. First, any of Perry County District Library's seven locations are excellent places to make use of free access to computers and the Internet and to find books and other resources that will assist you in the job search process. Perry County Job & Family Services employs someone throughout the week who is devoted to assisting people in the preparation of resumes and cover letters and filling out online applications. Use the contact information above for more information. View, print, and complete the Chronological Resume Worksheet to get the process started.
- Holland Center (Corning): The Holland Center provides free access to computers (Macs and PCs) and the Internet and will also assist individuals with resume and cover letter preparation. If you are interested in obtaining computer skills, the Center also provides regular (and free) computer/technology classes - a great community resource.

- CareerBoard Central Ohio: This is a source of job listings for Columbus and its surrounding areas.
- ColumbusJobs: ColumbusJobs gives you access to jobs listed in the Columbus Dispatch and others nationwide. You will also find job hunting advice here.
- Fairfield County Opportunity Center: This is an excellent place to explore job search and interview tips as well as to connect with employment opportunities and upcoming job fairs in Fairfield County.
- Find Help in Tough Times: Site created by the State Library of Ohio that provides links to information on housing, parenting, and employment (to name a few).
- Muskingum County Opportunity Center: This site provides online access to job leads within Guernsey, Licking, and Muskingum Counties, which are updated weekly.
- Office of Unemployment Compensation: Job and Family Services site serving as a portal to information concerning unemployment benefits in the state.
- Ohio Means Jobs: This site is a gateway to job opportunities within the state and nationwide. Like many of the other sites here, this resource also provides general job search and resume preparation assistance.
- Southeastern Ohio Help Wanted: Use this site to browse or search for jobs in Perry, Athens, Hocking, and Muskingum Counties (among others). Also be sure to make use of the career assessment test to help you take stock of your skills and abilities.
- Workforce Investment Act (WIA): Site providing information concerning this federally funded program aimed at providing individuals with employment and training opportunities. This program is usually administered locally through county Job and Family Services offices and is an opportunity to retrain for a new job/career.

- CareerBuilder: Popular job listing site offering access to opportunities in a variety of fields from all over the world. Beware of "opportunities" that are not really jobs at all - just attempts to mine for your contact information.
- CareerOneStop: Sponsored by the US Department of Labor, this site provides a wealth of information concerning employment, education, and business success. This site also functions as a portal to the many One-Stop Career Centers throughout the state.
- indeed: Site providing access to job openings from across the country. The best aspect of this site is its simple search feature that resembles Google (very easy).
- LinkUp: Job search site that attempts to eliminate work at home and other employment scams by pulling advertisements directly from company websites - very simple to use.
- Monster: Another popular site that allows users to search for or browse job listings.
- Simply Hired: Another simple searchable site where users can explore job opportunities from across the country.
- US Department of Labor - Job Seekers: Government website covering a wide variety of topics related to resume and job search strategies, disability information, and job training.

Job listings advertised on these newspaper websites can generally be found by clicking on "Classifieds" and then looking for the "Employment" or "Jobs" link.
Legal Forms & Assistance
Staff at PCDL are ready to assist you in locating information concerning certain legal issues. We are, however, unable to offer legal advice of any kind. For such advice, one can contact an attorney or the branch of Southeastern Ohio Legal Services that serves Perry County.
All seven PCDL locations have many of the forms needed for divorce, child support, and custody issues that go through the county's Common Pleas and Juvenile Courts. These have been provided by Southeastern Ohio Legal Services and can be copied or printed at the $0.10/page rate. All PCDL locations also have books pertaining to legal issues or forms such as powers of attorney, living wills, landlord/tenant disputes, and many others. These can be found by using the library catalog. The Ohio State Bar Association also offers extensive legal information for the public through its Law You Can Use Web page.

If you have questions pertaining to mental or physical health, it is always best to consult a medical professional. Use the links below as resources that can supplement the information that you receive from your doctor. |
- Consumer Health Complete: Provides access to drug and herb information, medical reference works, medical pamphlets, and magazine and journal articles from leading health and medicine publications. If accessing from outside the library, you will have to enter a library card number in order to view the site.
- MedlinePlus: A gateway to a diverse array of health information from a variety of sources, the content on this site must meet strict quality and accuracy criteria. The National Institutes of Health, among other organizations, screen the content contained on the site - an excellent site for all types of health topics.
- NetWellness: The content on this site is created and maintained by medical faculty at the University of Cincinnati, Case Western, and The Ohio State University. It provides understandable content with you, the patient, in mind.
- EBSCO Publishing: As public concern about Pandemic H1N1 and the upcoming flu season continues to grow, the medical and nursing editors from EBSCO Publishing are responding by offering the latest evidence-based flu-related information for free. Please visit this site often and feel free to share, post, and email this link to your colleagues, family and friends.

- BookLetters: Find out about the latest releases, books on TV, and award winners by using this resource paid for by your library and linked directly to the library's catalog. Be sure to sign up for the very convenient automatic e-mail alerts to have these suggestions sent directly to your e-mail on a regular basis.
- Fiction_L Booklists: Locate listings of books pertaining to a variety of genres and topics submitted by librarians from across the country.
- LibraryThing: This site connects you to a vibrant online community of readers who share their reading lists and reviews.
