1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
The simple and enjoyable act of sharing books helps your child learn pre-reading early literacy skills, such as understanding the sounds letters make, developing a bigger vocabulary, and building background knowledge—all important skills that help prepare your child for learning to read and entering kindergarten.
Perry County District Library's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a fun, exciting, and free way to start your child on the path to being a reader! Any child ages birth to five years can participate and earn rewards along the way.
One thousand books may seem like a lot, but if you read just one book a night, you'll meet your goal in less than three years. If you read three books a night, you could reach your goal in just one year!
You can register for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program online through the library's Beanstack page! Visit pcdl.beanstack.org to sign up today and begin logging books read! For each milestone reached, stop in at your local library to receive your child's prize.
If you would prefer to sign up in person, see any staff member to get started today!
The Ah-Ha! A Hands-On Adventure Children's Museum is located in Lancaster, Ohio at 1708 River Valley Circle South.
Passes to the Ah-Ha! Museum can be checked out at any of our six PCDL locations. Passes can be checked out for one week with no renewals. Holds cannot be placed on the passes.
DUE TO THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM, YOUTH GRAB AND GO BAGS ARE CURRENTLY SUSPENDED AND WILL RESUME IN AUGUST 2021.

Grab and Go bags are offered for children and require online registration via the library's Online Calendar of Events. Bags include fun, age-appropriate crafts, edible crafts, and include a literacy element! Themes change monthly and may range from seasonal themes to holiday themes.
